A Girl and Her Dog

Hey kids

We know you love animals; all of us love them too! They are fun and cute and soft and give tons and tons of love in return, sometimes it is too much love on their part. Some of our dogs and cats have been without much love for a while and they can not control their demand for your attention and they don't know yet how to be completely safe around everyone…so, for your safety we want you to wait.

Not a long time, just until you are 16 years old ~ It seems like a long time but while you are waiting we have some other things that you can do to help the dogs and cats at Main Line Animal Rescue.

Do you have any idea how much laundry all of these dogs and cats go through each day..ugh…and every time we wash the towels we put bleach in the laundry.. Well, ask whoever does the laundry in your house to tell you what happens to towels when they are bleached over and over again, they get holes, big ones and small ones and strings hanging on them so we can't use them any more (dogs and cats get their paws caught in the strings) so we need to throw them away. So we are always running out of towels. Do you think your friends would each bring in a towel and you can run a towel drive for us??? That would be awesome and then they would have fluffy new towels to sleep on at night. Ah, sweet, soft dreams…of chasing butterflies, oh wait, I was dreaming…

It won't be long, we promise, until you are old enough to come and help us and it is possible that before long we may change some of our rules and start a junior volunteer program when we have a place to do it and know that we have enough kids who are super responsible and have taken excellent care of their pets at home.. so for now, that's the best place to start…at home with your pets:

  • Train your dog to sit, stay and roll over (that's a tough one)
  • Give your dogs and cats extra praise when they do something right
  • Be the one to feed them breakfast or dinner on time each day (they will LOVE you for that!)
  • If you want a new pet, never buy one from a pet store. Visit your local shelter and rescue one that does not have a home or if you want a new puppy tell the people who have the puppy that you MUST see the puppy's mom and dad.
  • And most important give them an extra special squeeze from us each night because they are the lucky dogs to be in a warm, loving home with you…

Can't wait to see you when you are 16!
